Weekend Safari KARIOITAHI BEACH, Waiuku.

Karioitahi is an 8km surf beach, situated between the Waikato River and the Manukau Harbour.  1 hour out of Auckland, it is accessed through Waiuku.

At low tide the beach is about 100m wide. Normally there is treacherous surf making it dangerous for swimming. Towards the north high cliffs rise above the beach, up to 200m high, with many waterfalls.

The objective will be to meet around 10am and travel up the beach by a Beach Buggy. Lunch up the beach. Then back by Beach Buggy. The area that we will be aiming for is inaccessable without special vehicles.

Beach access is very tidal dependant, but 24th May gives a perfect tide. The first high tide will be at 5:43 am and the next high tide at 6:21 pm. The only low tide of the day will be at 12:02 pm.   The sun will rise at 7:20 am and sunset will be at 5:15 pm.

Restaurant meals can be obtained at Castaway Lodge for those wishing to stay onto sunset. Other facilities are available in President Ronald's Cottage which overlooks the beach. Unit 16 Castaway Development.
