Laura Evans was born in Auckland, New Zealand and is of Maori, Croatian, English and Welsh descent. She is a creative person having danced competitively and discovering a passion for photography while at high school, especially experimenting with dark room processes. Laura has travelled thought out Europe with her camera in hand and she loved every second of her experience. Laura began studying towards a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Whitecliffe College of Art and Design in 2009 majoring in photography. Her work discusses themes of personal experience, identity, and public and private using formal approaches of rich textures and plays with depth of field. In 2012 Laura’s series Second Skin won the Image Nation Competition held by the AIAP which was judged by national and international photographers. For a part time job, Laura is a commercial photographer for weddings and portraits, drawing on her warm personality and skills from a customer service background. After completing her degree, Laura aims to balance her fine art practice and commercial photography.
